When most people hear the name Coachella, they immediately think of the world-famous music festival. Fun fact: the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is actually held in neighboring Indio, not the City of Coachella!

The City of Coachella has deep agricultural roots and a rich cultural heritage that continue to shape the community today. Much of the workforce responsible for planting, growing, and harvesting the fruits and vegetables that feed communities across the country calls Coachella home. Agriculture isn't just part of the city's history, it's part of everyday life and one of the reasons the Coachella Valley became what it is today.

As the city continues to grow, new neighborhoods, parks, and local businesses are joining its long-standing traditions. Colorful murals, authentic restaurants, and community events celebrate the diverse cultures that make Coachella such a vibrant place to live.

Whether you're visiting for the incredible food, exploring the city's public art, or looking to put down roots in the eastern Coachella Valley, you'll quickly discover that Coachella is much more than the name of a music festival. It's a hardworking community with a rich history, a bright future, and a story all its own.

Things To Do & Places To Visit

When the summer heat arrives, Bagdouma Park Pool becomes one of Coachella's favorite places to cool off. Open seasonally, the community pool welcomes swimmers of all ages and offers open swim, swimming lessons, adaptive programs, and even splash party rentals. It's a popular gathering place for East Valley families looking to beat the desert heat and enjoy a fun day in the water.

Veterans Memorial Park is one of Coachella's central gathering places for families and community events. The park features a playground, swimming pool, open green space, and an outdoor stage that hosts celebrations throughout the year. It's also home to the city's annual Veterans Day 5K and other community events, making it a place where residents come together to celebrate and connect. Coachella Veterans Memorial Park

Augustine Casino is a local favorite. Owned by the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians, it's known for its friendly atmosphere, slot machines, and casual dining at Seven Feathers and Menyikish Grill. Smaller than some of the valley's larger resorts, Augustine has built a loyal following by focusing on great service and a welcoming experience, earning its reputation as "Where Locals Win."

Great Shakes

The menu is written on a giant chalkboard, and the list of shakes seems to go on forever. Every shake is made to order and topped off with one of their signature mini donuts perched right on the straw. They even offer lactose-free options! Also on the menu are malt, floats, & dole Whip

Whether you're strolling downtown after dinner or just looking for the perfect dessert, Great Shakes is a Palm Springs staple that's absolutely worth the stop. Just don't blame me if you find yourself planning your next visit before you've even finished your shake.

Shady Lane Park.jpeg

Shady Lane Park may be one of Coachella's smaller neighborhood parks, but it's home to one of the city's most unique landmarks: the massive Big Bear sculpture by artist Don Kennell. If the bear looks familiar, there's a reason. It once welcomed festivalgoers at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival before finding a permanent home here. It's a fun photo opportunity and another reminder that art can be found throughout the City of Coachella, not just during festival season.
