Coquito is one of those recipes that feels like home in a glass. Creamy, lightly spiced, and rich with coconut flavor, it’s a holiday staple in many Puerto Rican households and a drink that’s meant to be shared. This version is delicious on its own, but a little rum really makes it special.
I’ve been getting requests for this recipe for a while, so I’m excited to finally share my go-to coquito. It’s simple, comes together quickly, and is perfect for gatherings, gifting, or just keeping in the fridge for when friends stop by.

What Is Coquito?
Coquito translates to “little coconut,” and it’s often described as Puerto Rico’s version of eggnog. Unlike traditional eggnog, coquito is coconut-based and typically flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Every family has their own version, and this is mine.
Ingredients
1 (15 oz) can Cream of Coconut
1 (14 oz) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 (12 oz) cans Evaporated Milk
1 3/4 cup white puerto rican rum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a blender.
Blend until completely smooth and well combined.
Taste and adjust spices or rum as needed.
Transfer to glass bottles or a sealed container.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Coquito tastes even better once it’s chilled.
Before serving, give it a good shake and pour over ice or enjoy it straight.
Tips & Variations
Prefer it less sweet? Use a little less cream of coconut.
Want it extra coconut-forward? Add a splash of coconut rum.
Making it non-alcoholic? Simply skip the rum. It’s still rich, creamy, and full of flavor.
Coquito will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days when stored properly.
Made to Be Shared
One of my favorite things about cooking is how it brings people together. This coquito has become a favorite for friends, neighbors, and anyone who happens to stop by. It’s the kind of recipe that starts conversations and turns into traditions.
