Homecoming Glam Lab at the Indio Library | Mejer Cosmetics X Jermaine Antonio
First, a huge thank you to the Indio Library and its amazing staff for welcoming me into their space and helping bring this idea to life. A special thank you to Michelle, the library branch manager, who was excited about the idea from the moment I brought it up. She didn’t just help make the event happen, either. She became our model for the day! 🤩
When I first started planning the Homecoming Glam Lab, I thought about having a volunteer from the audience be my model. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that might actually take away from the experience. Everyone was coming to learn tips and techniques, ask questions, and hopefully leave with a few new tricks they could use themselves. So instead, Michelle graciously volunteered to sit in the makeup chair.
And of course, she looked stunning! 🤩💅
We Had No Idea What to Expect
Going into the day, we really weren't sure how it was going to go.
Would the room be packed? Would a handful of people show up? Would no one come at all? There was really no way to know.
Things started out pretty slow. Our first attendee was a high school student who mentioned that it was actually her school's Homecoming day. So, naturally, we started wondering if that was going to be the theme of the day: a very small but very dedicated Glam Lab! 😬
Thankfully, people continued to trickle in. 💚
By the end of the lab, we had more than 10 people in the room, asking questions, learning techniques, talking about their favorite products (and the ones we weren't huge fans of), and asking what I would personally recommend.
We even had people walking into the library who would stop by, poke their head into the room to see what was happening, and end up joining in on the fun before continuing on to the library for whatever brought them in that day. 😊
And honestly, that's one of my favorite parts of the whole experience.
It Was About More Than Makeup
The goal of the Glam Lab wasn't to give everyone a perfect makeup look to copy. It was about learning.
We talked about techniques, products, application, and ways to make your makeup work for you. There were questions, conversations, opinions, and lots of "I never thought about doing it that way!" moments.
That's exactly what I was hoping for when we came up with the idea.
So, all in all, I'd call the Homecoming Glam Lab a success. 🥰

And We're Just Getting Started
The Indio Library and I are already talking about bringing another Glam Lab to the library, this time with adults in mind.
And who knows... there might even be a special men's grooming class in the future.
This was my first Glam Lab, and getting to bring something I enjoy into a local library and share it with the community was such a fun experience. I'm already looking forward to seeing where we can take it next.
Your Local Library Is More Than Books
If you haven't checked out one of our local libraries lately, I really encourage you to do it.
There is so much happening inside these buildings beyond checking out a book.
You can learn how to sew, join a family paint night, use the computers, get help with technology, attend educational workshops, meet other people in the community, and, of course, discover plenty of books, movies, and other resources along the way.
The library really can be a place to learn something new, try something different, and connect with your community.
So if you haven't stopped by your local library lately, maybe this is your sign. Plus, September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. 😃
