Joseph & I always say we somehow end up in the most random places. Not in a glamorous, planned-out way. More in like a "how did we get here" and "why does this keep happening" kind of way. 🙃

A few weeks back, we were gushing over Alaska Thunderf*ck coming to the Plaza Theatre in Downtown Palm Springs. Alaska is one of my favorite queens, so the fact that she was performing basically in our backyard felt wild. Other obligations came up, so we passed. I was a little bummed. 🙁

Fast forward a few days and Joseph casually mentions that he entered an online contest for Alaska tickets. Around the same time, the plans that stopped us from buying tickets completely fell through. Of course they did. So we decided to stay home, clean, handle all the adult stuff we ignore during the week, and later on we'll have wine with our neighbors down the street. (Another story for another blog ☺️)

The morning of the show, we are at home doing exactly that. Cleaning, organizing, fully in homebody mode. We are both sitting there, scrolling on our phones, minding our business, when I get an email that says, “Congratulations Jermaine, you’ve won two tickets to tonight’s show. Tickets will be at will call under your name.” I look up at Joseph and say, “Wait… we won?”

About 10 seconds later, Joseph looks at his phone and goes, “Uh… I just got the same email.”

Joseph goes into tech guy mode. Ironically, he cannot remember where or how he even signed up for this contest. The email came from a name followed by @oakviewgroup.com, but the signature said @plazatheatre.com, which made it feel a little sketchy at first. After some digging, he confirmed Oak View Group manages the theatre. It was real.

Then it clicked. I won two tickets. He won two tickets. We had four tickets!!! 🤯😲

So we invited friends. And by invited, I mean we messaged them on Instagram. Luckily, they were free and down to join. 😃

As if the universe weren't already doing the most, the email mentioned that Alaska requested everyone wear red. Naturally, neither of us owns anything red. So off to the store we went. We found matching red polos, decided that was good enough, and moved on. (Very few took that request serious 😠)

We showed up early to grab the tickets from will call, met up with our friends, handed them their tickets, and walked over to the theatre together.

Everything was going smoothly until it was not...

Joseph & I went through security first. Our friends were right behind us. Or so we thought. I suddenly hear “Joseph!” and turn around to see panic. One of the tickets was missing. Gone... We had literally just handed them over?!! 😅

They retraced their steps, scanning the ground and replaying our walk over to the theatre. Joseph & I went back to will call, hoping there was some way to fix this. Thankfully, everyone working at the theatre was incredible. Security, box office, all of them. They reprinted the ticket without any hassle.

Problem solved! 🥳

It was a bit of a mission, but we made it!

And that is how we ended up with four tickets to Love, Alaska: A Valentine’s Day Show at the Plaza Theatre in Downtown Palm Springs. A reminder that sometimes the nights you do not plan for, the contests you forget you entered, and the days that start completely ordinary turn into the ones you talk about the most.
